Sarah Spector is an artist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, and
working in a variety of media.
For thirteen years, she produced an extensive body of abstracted
interiors, still lifes, portraits, nudes and landscapes. Since 1989,
she has painted non-objectively mainly in acrylic and mixed media on
paper, recycled wood and canvas.
Sarah was raised outside of Washington, D.C. and has lived and worked in
the Galilee, Israel; Paris and Corsica, France; and Los Angeles and Santa Cruz,
California, USA. She attended college in Portland, Oregon; Boston,
Massachusetts; and Nice, France. She earned a Masters Degree in
painting at the American
University in Washington, D.C.
She is an avid dancer, including contact improvisation. She
sings bilingual pop and folk, and plays fiddle and guitar. Her
desire is to support the greening of the planet, including permacultural settlements across the globe.
Review of Sarah's Work
"Sarah Spector's paintings depict not only
her physical relationship to the world, but multiply occurring
perceptions in the subtle realms. Hidden within her works is a
pure mathematics, which is Source manifesting Itself through core,
original patterns--like the most subtle cause of form in the "matrix"--the
world of appearances.
Each
painting is a poem about a fathomlessness that seems to break
apart at its inception. There at the edge of time is Sarah's eye
perceiving the first sun rays of the eternal, creating forms.
Many of her paintings have a circle in or near the
center, depicting Soul in relationship to structures continuously
being created and destroyed. Here, cosmic bodies dance in a sometimes
tempestuous array, planets encircle the sun, and electrons spin
around neutrons. Streams of geometric forms coalesce and break
up simultaneously.
She makes pieces that, although sumptuous, also
delve into the essential structures out of which the world is
born. She combines the technical mastery of color with the spiritual
wisdom of one who has experienced this cosmic birthing into a
divine sea. Her keen intuition continues to deepen in her relationship
with the process."

I like paintings in which there is a dialogue between the innocence and aliveness of pure color with a structure as rigorous as architecture to contain/define the space.
